W3LPL Visits AARC

Our March 15th meeting should be a real treat.  Our guest speaker will be Frank Donovan (W3LPL).  In case you aren't a DXer or contester, and have no idea who W3LPL is, let me explain it this way.  He has one of the biggest and best antenna farms in the world at his home in Glenwood Maryland.  Just take a look at his collection of 200 foot towers..

3D Printing Presentation March 1st

delta.pngMarch 3rd, David Rawley (AE5Z) will be telling us all about 3D printing.  I doubt anyone at the AARC hasn't wanted to print something in 3D sometime since the advent of these wonderful gadgets. I know I can thing about half a dozen small parts I've broken over the years.  How about being able to print a new knob for the one broken on  your transceiver, or maybe a case for some new gizmo you are building.  Maybe  we'll even get tips on which unit to buy.

Technician Class Started March 3rd

Our latest Technician Class started Saturday, March 3rd.  We had 24 students preregiestered.  Of those 20 arrived for the first class, along with 7 people who didn't preregister.  Good thing I made extra handouts..  The next week more arrived.

Portable Operation

backpack.pngThis Thursday, as we recover from too many cards, flowers, and chocolates, the AARC is proud to bring you a presentation on portable operations, from one man pack portable, to camping style operation, to Field Day style portable. Special emphasis will be on a variety of antennas that fit the bill for 'portable operations' many of which fit well in a backpack.  So if you want to be a 'Happy Camper', you'll be at the club house 7:30 PM on February 15th.

Valentines Day Cancellation

heart.pngAfter learning the errors of my ways, I have decided to skip the Morse Code Class scheduled for 7:00 PM on Valentines Day, this Wednesday.  Some times other things do indeed come before Amateur Radio.  Practice via Skype will be held Friday and Monday as usual.  The next letters to be studies are C, Q, P, I and maybe either F or L.  Have a happy Valentines Day!

Antenna Tuner Group Postponed

I was unable to get the supply of #14 wire needed to continue with the Antenna Tuner Coils today.   Due to my morning plans, I will be unable to get the wood necessary to proceed with an alternate section of the construction of these devices today.  Therefore, today's meeting of the Antenna Tuner Group for Field Day will be postponed till Next Sunday, February 4, 2018.  I hope some of you will take advantage of the extra weekend time to participate in Winter Field Day.
