Normal topic AARC Radio Shack
Sat., July 31 - We got the Station #1 set up and I made one CW contact on 20m CW. Keith-AE3D set up the computer for Station #1 and installed the General Contact logbook as well as the MD QSO Party logbook.
Anyone making any QSO using the club call sign should record the QSO into the computer at that position in the General Contact logbook on that computer. All entries will then be automatically sent to the server logbook. Keith-AE3D will post a cheat sheet at each radio station on how to use the General Contact logbook.
We discovered that the built in keyer in the TS-570 does not work but a straight key will. We got the MFJ Memory keyer working but needed an different cable to connect to the rig. I made a new one and will install it next work party.
We tested out another cable (labelled RS) coming from the repeater room and found that it was a 2m/440 antenna and labeled it such. We installed it on the 2m side of the IC-910 rig at Station #2. We need a duplexer (VHF/UHF - Comet CF-142 or similar) so we can hook up both sides of the rig to the one antenna.
We also tested out two other cables under the radio desk that have UHF connectors on flex cable and then joined to 1/2" hardline. Both seem NOT connected to antennas as they read open(high SWR) across the whole HF-VHF-UHF spectrum with the analyzer.
At the next work party we will install the Kenwood TS 880 rig, power supply, laptop computer for logging and associated things needed at Station #2 to make it usable for the MD QSO Party.
We also plan to work on getting the other antennas re-routed thru the repeater room if weather condx prove favorable.
Next work party is 4:30 PM, Wed., Aug. 3. All are invited to help.
