QRP CW Radio Project
This year's project is a kit from Wilderness Radio. It is the SST model which is a QRP CW rig that should take about 10 or so hours, not counting the parts inventory. It's a kit that gets high marks for both performance and construction. It is recommended that we go 40 meters. The projections for the level of solar activity over the next few years is that it will be low. That means the folk who want to play after work in the evening will be able to do so. 40 on the weekend is fun as the portable folk, qrpers from home, and home brewers come out to play. That doesn't mean that other bands can't be chosen; it was just a recommendation. This particular model is in the same construction class as what we did last year. It should allow the same level of success.
Please take a look at the site and see if this is something you would be interested in building. Barry would like to put the order in by about mid-January. Remember, the 40M unit is just a recommendation, you can order a unit that runs on any band you wish. Although you can build your kit anywhere / any time, the general idea is to do a project at the clubhouse where those with little to no experience would have the benefit of those with experience there to help them. Everyone will get their unit operating on the air! The group will be gathering once a week beginning in February to build the kits.
Please contact Barry / K3NDM Building with any questions or to place an order for a kit.
