June 2013 Edition of Ham Arundel News

We had a file size problem with website or the hosting service. I trimmed the photo sizes and I think this should work. Hopefully you will see an attachment. Posted on behalf of newsletter editor Milford, N3WYG.

J79GV Results

A lot of club members worked me on Dominica as well as some PVRC'ers and some from the 1900 Group. I am picking the best photo for the QSL's and will print them soon. If you want to receive a QSL card in person at a club meeting just fill yours out and bring it to a meeting. (If you do not have your own QSL's just let me know you want card) I will give a presentation about the operation probably in April.

Here are the results:

1903 QSO's
91 DX
49 states plus DC (Missed Montana)

AARC Public Service Web Site

At some time in the past the club web page for Public Service was well designed, informative, and maintained. In recent times the information has become out of date. We have a new Public Service coordinator this year, Les Silva KH6CUJ. He needed the site updated as an effective way to announce the events and get volunteers to contact him. I volunteered to put up a simple, easy to edit, text only page for now just to get it done. All the code for the old page has been preserved so it can still be redone or maintained. Let me or George N3YSA know if any corrections or additional information is needed.

It can be accessed from the AARC web page or at this link:

KK4GV QRV on Dominica March 8 - 18

I have been issued the callsign J79GV by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of the Commonwealth of Dominica. Dominica (Dom-i-nee-ka) is an unspoiled jewel in the Caribbean and we will be there from March 8 to March 18. Check the DX clusters (DX Watch or DX Summit for instance) for me to be spotted on the air. You can filter the spots by many criteria or just search for J7 spots. I am taking the Flex-3000 and the IC-706 as a back-up plus dipoles for 10-12-15-17-20 and 40 meters and 750 feet of rope.

2013 Training Classes Announced - Technician starts March 2 - General starts April 27

The entry level license for operating Amateur Radio in the United states is called Technician. The intermediate level license which earns more transmitting privileges is called the General. The top level license is called Amateur Extra. We have scheduled the first two level classes and are now accepting students to sign up. Classes are held at our Davidsonville, Maryland clubhouse and run 6 weeks in 3 hour sessions on Saturday mornings from 9AM until Noon. The class itself is FREE. You can buy the book on-line or at the first class but it is helpful to read the first chapter in advance.

A corporate sponsor (LDG Electronics) has agreed to provide a free handheld radio (subject to availability) to each student who attends the Technician classes and passes the license exam.

Please email KK4GV at W3VPR dot ORG with your Name, Address, Phone Number and any questions you may have. Click Read More for the schedule.
